Privacy Policy
Effective 7 November 2026
Pinni is an app for couples: a shared board where two people keep their days, letters, voice notes and memories together. This policy explains what personal information Pinni collects, why, how long it is kept, who it is shared with, and the choices and rights you have.
at a glance
- What you share in Pinni is visible only to you and the person you share it with.
- We do not show ads, track you, or sell or share your personal information.
- You can delete your account from the app at any time. This policy explains what is deleted, and when.
1. Who is responsible
Pinni is operated by Viktor Blais, a sole proprietor based in British Columbia, Canada (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at support@pinni-app.com.
2. Information we collect
Your account
You sign in to Pinni with Apple or Google. They provide us with an identifier for your account and an email address. If you use Sign in with Apple, that address may be a private relay address that keeps your real one hidden.
Your profile
Your name, pronouns and profile photo, and your city if you choose to add it. We also keep your time zone, your chosen theme and font, the last day you opened Pinni, and whether you have completed the introductory tour.
What you share
The content you create in Pinni, so that you and your partner can see it. This includes status updates (a photo, a note, and what you are up to), the pages of your shared book (photos, titles, captions, dates, drawings, stickers, colours, notes and reactions), letters and gifts (their contents and delivery dates), doodles, voice recordings, answers to the daily question, countdowns, items pinned to your board, and gestures such as hugs and kisses. It also includes the invitation you send to your partner: its code and its message.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, a token that lets us send them to your device, and your notification preferences.
Subscriptions
If you or your partner subscribe to Pinni Pro, we receive the status of that subscription: whether it is active, until when, whether it is a free trial, whether it will renew, and whether there is a billing problem. Payments are processed by Apple. We never receive your payment card or billing details.
Crash reports
If the app encounters an error, it sends a technical report: your device model, operating system version, the version of Pinni, and details of the error. Crash reports never include your name, email address or anything you have shared, and the app never records your screen.
Server logs
Like any online service, our servers briefly record technical details of each request, such as an IP address and a time.
On your device
Pinni stores copies of photos it has already displayed, so they load quickly, along with a few preferences. These are removed when you sign out. Pinni asks for your permission before using your camera, photo library, microphone or notifications, and uses them only when you take an action that needs them. Pinni does not use your location.
3. How we use your information
We use your information only to:
- provide Pinni, and show what you share to your partner;
- keep your account secure, and sign you in;
- send the notifications you have chosen to receive;
- provide Pinni Pro to you and your partner when one of you subscribes;
- find and fix problems, and keep the service secure; and
- reply when you contact us.
4. Who can see your information
What you share in Pinni is visible to your partner: that is the purpose of the app. It is not visible to anyone else who uses Pinni. Your files are stored privately, and the database itself restricts access to each shared space to the two people in it.
Operating Pinni gives us technical access to the database. We do not look at the content you share, except to help you when you ask us to, or where the law requires it.
5. Service providers
We rely on the following companies to operate Pinni. Each processes personal information on our behalf, only to provide its service to us, and under its own security and privacy commitments.
- Supabase hosts our database, file storage and sign-in. Located in Canada.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, delivers notifications to iPhones, and processes App Store payments.
- Google provides Sign in with Google, if you choose it.
- Expo relays notifications to Apple, and delivers app updates. Located in the United States.
- RevenueCat manages Pinni Pro subscriptions. It receives an identifier for your account and your purchase details, never your name or email address. Located in the United States.
- Sentry stores crash reports. Located in the United States.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
6. Where your information is stored
Your account, your profile and everything you share in Pinni are stored in Canada. Crash reports, subscription status and notification delivery are handled by the providers in the United States listed above. Information held in another country is subject to that country’s laws, and may be accessible to its courts and authorities.
7. What we do not do
- We do not show advertising.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell or share your personal information.
- We do not build profiles of you, and we do not use your content to train artificial intelligence.
This website does not use cookies or tracking of any kind.
8. How long we keep your information
- Your content is kept for as long as your shared space exists, unless you delete it sooner.
- Voice recordings are deleted one day after they are first played, unless either of you saves them with a star.
- Gestures, such as hugs and kisses, are deleted after 30 days.
- When either of you leaves the shared space, it becomes read-only for both of you for 30 days. Everything in it, including files, is then permanently deleted.
- When you delete your account, your account, sign-in and profile are deleted immediately. Your partner can still read your shared space, including what you shared, for 30 days, after which it is permanently deleted. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke Pinni’s access to your Apple account.
- Incomplete sign-ups, where no shared space was ever completed, are deleted after 30 days without use.
- Notification tokens are deleted once your device stops accepting them, for example after Pinni is removed from it.
- Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days.
- Server logs are kept for a short period, and then deleted.
Backups may contain deleted information for a short time before they are replaced. We do not restore deleted information from backups, except to recover from a technical failure.
9. Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can:
- access and correct your information. Most of it is available in the app, and you can change your profile at any time;
- delete your account, from Settings → Delete account;
- keep a copy of your content, by sharing pages from your book or saving your photos when your shared space closes, or by asking us for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- turn off notifications, in Pinni or in your device’s settings; and
- ask us about any use of your information, or ask us to limit it, at support@pinni-app.com.
We respond to requests within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact your privacy regulator. In Canada, that is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
10. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom
We process your information on the following legal bases: to perform our contract with you, which is providing Pinni; our legitimate interests in keeping Pinni reliable and secure, for crash reports, server logs and security measures; and your consent, for notifications, which you may withdraw at any time.
Your information is stored in Canada, which the European Commission and the United Kingdom recognise as providing an adequate level of protection for personal information handled by businesses. Where our providers in the United States process your information, they do so under the safeguards required by law, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
In addition to the rights in section 9, you have the right to data portability and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country, or in the United Kingdom with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
11. If you are in California
We do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined by California law, and we have not done so. You have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, and to request its correction or deletion. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
12. Children
Pinni is intended for people aged 16 and over. If we learn that a person under 16 has an account, we will delete it.
13. Security
Information sent between Pinni and our servers is encrypted in transit, and it is stored encrypted. Access to each shared space is restricted to its two members. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information, and we will notify you if a security incident affects it, as the law requires.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, with its effective date. If we make a significant change, we will also let you know in the app before it takes effect.
